16 Confidence-Building Habits You Need to Incorporate Into Your Daily Routine

Perfectionism and fear of failure have pushed me to sabotage remarkable opportunities in my career. The problem was that I didn’t catch my fear until after I successfully lost the opportunity. It was infuriating and paralyzing—I had to do something to shift the direction of my future.

I’ve touched upon the qualities we see in people who exude confidence, but how can you get there? The below habits can help you get there if they’re done regularly.

The following are the top 16 confidence-building habits to incorporate into your routine:

  1. Teaching, or sharing what you’ve learned
  2. Service—helping others
  3. Daily affirmations
  4. Spiritual reading
  5. Yoga
  6. Meditation
  7. Learning
  8. Finish projects
  9. Intentionally follow your instincts/intuition
  10. Honor your word
  11. Exercise consistently
  12. Eating nutritious foods
  13. Journal daily (what worked and what didn’t work? Self-awareness leads to self-confidence.)
  14. Listen generously
  15. Focus on what there is to be grateful for
  16. Acknowledge fear, and act anyway

The key is to start small, begin noticing the benefits, and then build on them. For example, ten years ago I started with five minutes of meditation every day. Slowly, over the next year, I increased to fifteen minutes. Meanwhile, I found a few beliefs I wanted to adopt, but did not yet believe, and began saying them to myself (affirmations) in front of the mirror every morning.

Weird? Yes, at first. Worth it? Absolutely!

Just a few months ago I began incorporating fifteen minutes of yoga every day. When I first started this new habit, I hated it. Yet, I believed it could help strengthen my spirit, and so almost like a parent to a child, I had to coax myself into getting through the first four weeks.

Today, strangely enough, I enjoy doing yoga. It took a while to see the benefits, but the benefits have been well worth the disciplined action.
