The Leadership Lessons Behind Elite Performance
What does it really take to perform at the highest level?
And perhaps the more interesting question:
What does competing at that level teach you about leading yourself and others when the pressure is on?
At this month’s Lewes Leadership Lunch, we’ll sit down with Carrie Lingo, an Olympian, accomplished real estate professional, and member of a well-known coastal Delaware family business, to explore what elite athletics can teach us about leadership, teamwork, resilience, and performance.
Carrie knows what it means to pursue excellence.
Reaching the Olympic level requires extraordinary discipline, years of practice, the ability to perform under pressure, and a willingness to keep going when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
But none of it happens alone.
Behind individual achievement are coaches, teammates, families, difficult feedback, disappointment, sacrifice, trust—and countless moments when you have to decide what you’re going to do next.
Carrie has carried those experiences from elite athletics into another highly competitive arena: business.
Through a moderated conversation with Misti Burmeister, Carrie will share stories from her journey and explore what she learned about performing at a high level, working with others, navigating pressure, and applying those lessons beyond the athletic field.
Together, we’ll explore questions like:
- What separates people who consistently perform at a high level from those who have talent but never fully realize it?
- What does an Olympian learn about handling pressure when the stakes are high?
- How do you recover when you’ve worked incredibly hard for something and the outcome isn’t what you wanted?
- What role do coaches, teammates, feedback, and trust play in individual success?
- What lessons from elite athletics translate directly into leading a business or a team?
As with every L3 gathering, this won’t be a lecture.
It will be an honest conversation filled with stories, reflection, audience questions, and opportunities to learn alongside other local leaders.
Whether you lead a business, manage a team, work within a family business, are navigating a significant transition, or simply want to understand what helps people perform at their best, you’ll leave with ideas you can put to work long after lunch is over.
About Carrie Lingo
Carrie Lingo is an Olympian, accomplished real estate professional, business leader, and lifelong competitor whose experiences have taken her from elite athletics to business and leadership.
Reaching the Olympic stage required far more than talent. It demanded discipline, resilience, teamwork, sacrifice, adaptability, and the ability to perform when the pressure was high and the outcome was anything but guaranteed.
Today, Carrie brings those experiences into her work in real estate and her family’s long-standing coastal Delaware business. Her journey offers a fascinating lens into what elite performance can teach us about leadership, teamwork, pressure, resilience—and what we do when the outcome isn’t the one we worked so hard for.
