Disruption is critical for growth, in all areas of life. We need tornadoes, hurricanes, wildFires, and viruses… They help us to grow, but only if we let them.

Here are three critical steps you can take every day to ensure that you and your team grow through this #coronavirus challenge:

1. Check In Daily. Check in with yourself. Take the time to write out how you are feeling and what do you need to have a successful day. Check in with your team. Find out how they’re doing, and where they might need support.

How am I feeling?

Anger

Resentment

Decision fatigue

FOMO

Fear

Perfectionism

Vulnerable

Sadness

Overwhelmed

Cautiously optimistic

Hopeful

Exhausted

Unhealthy/blob/lethargic

Unmotivated

Pivoted-out

Depressed

Anxious

Clear Headed

Calm

Trusting

Set an intention for the day. Example: Today I open myself to serenity, to quiet acceptance of all that is, and to a deep knowing that all is well. I let go into the peace and goodness of change.

2. Create Focus Every Day. Write out and share your focus for the day. Set Short Term milestones, and help everyone on your team to do the same. It’s too easy to get distracted by all the fear. An excellent remedy is to create focus.

3. Celebrate Small Wins! If you got yourself set up to work from home, that is to be celebrated right now. Snap a picture of your new (temporary) office space, share it with your team, and encourage them to share theirs.

Bonus: give yourself and your team (in the office and at home;) a large dose of HUMOR every day. Find videos and share stories that make you laugh.

Leadership is needed now more than ever. This pandemic is our opportunity to step up, remain calm, create focus, and encourage your team like never before. To do this, start with yourself.
